About This Ground

A small 18-acre reef in the offshore Hereford Inlet zone, distinct from the larger 120-foot slough complex to the south. The compact footprint concentrates fish on structure, making each drift count. Sea bass and tautog hold here year-round; bluefish and bonito transit through on offshore current edges in summer and fall. Hereford Inlet or Stone Harbor puts you on this ground in under an hour. Check with local captains — this reef is often combined with the adjacent eastern reef and the nearby slough series for a productive multi-stop offshore day. Small but consistently productive, particularly in September and October.

The surrounding characteristics are composed by sandy material and plain in the north of it and lumps ( "Five Fathom Bank") in the southe of it as a bottom type.
