About This Ground

The northern of the Cape May Reef inshore slough pair, following the 60-foot depth contour on the inshore face of the Cape May Reef complex. Three sloughs run through this area collectively, each offering a slightly different angle on the structure. Fluke, sea bass, and weakfish are the primary targets at 60–67 feet. Summer produces the most diverse action; fall transitions to predominantly sea bass. Work a light bottom rig or bucktail tipped with squid strip and drift across the current. Cape May and Stone Harbor offer the nearest charter departures for this ground. Best fished on the incoming tide when fresh water pushes bait onto the slough edges.

The surrounding area is characterized by sandy and shelly material as a bottom type.
