About This Ground

One of three sloughs situated directly on the inshore edge of Cape May Reef, following the 60-foot depth contour to a maximum of 67 feet. The proximity to the main reef structure means consistent fish populations — fluke and sea bass move between the reef proper and these inshore sloughs throughout the season. Summer brings strong fluke action; fall sea bass fishing picks up as the reef population concentrates before winter. Drift across the slough at low speed with Gulp baits or squid for the best results; the inshore position means current management is key. Cape May Inlet provides the most direct access for both charter boats and private vessels.

The surrounding area is characterized by sandy and shelly material as a bottom type.
