About This Ground

One of three sloughs positioned along the inshore edge of the Cape May Reef complex at the 60-foot depth contour. Despite sharing a name family with the Hereford Inlet grounds, this slough is functionally part of the Cape May Reef inshore zone, following the 60-foot depth line and dropping to 67 feet in the cuts. Fluke and sea bass share these shallower grounds in summer, with weakfish adding to the mix. The slough structure channels bait into predictable corridors — drift across the slough axis to maximize contact. Cape May Inlet is the most convenient departure point for this ground and its northern companion.

The surrounding area is characterized by sandy and shelly material as a bottom type.
