About This Ground

The third of four sloughs in the Cape May northeast series, covering roughly 62 acres between the central and outermost slough features. The northern position means slightly more offshore exposure and occasionally stronger current, which concentrates baitfish in the slough channels and triggers aggressive feeding. Fluke staging in the deeper slough sections can run to larger sizes than typical inshore catches. Sea bass and weakfish are secondary targets. Full-day trips from Cape May Inlet can work all four sloughs in this series during an outgoing or incoming tide cycle. This ground produces consistently from late May through early October, with peak action in July and August.

The surrounding area is characterized by sandy and shelly material as a bottom type.
