About This Ground

Resor North marks the northern extent of the R.P. Resor wreck complex, the tanker torpedoed by U-578 on February 28, 1942, that burned for two days off Barnegat Inlet. At 125–130 feet, the north section provides additional fishable bottom structure around the main stern wreck. Mako, thresher, and blue sharks work both sections from May through October; bluefin tuna run through summer. Sea bass, tautog, cod, and pollock hold on the structure in cooler months. The 31–34 mile run from Barnegat Inlet requires a seaworthy offshore vessel, but the Resor complex consistently rewards the trip. Anglers use clam-baited rigs for bottom fish and popper/jigging setups for pelagics above the structure.
