Slough off the New Jersey coast
The northern and easternmost section of the Hereford Inlet 120-foot slough complex. Like the other grounds in this series, the slough follows the depth contour at 120 feet, with concentrated sea bass and tautog habitat in the cuts and edges. The northern exposure of this ground means stronger current than the southern sections — a plus for fishing, as moving water activates fish on structure. Prime time is fall sea bass season; charter boats from Cape May County work this ground as the final stop on the Hereford slough circuit. Use heavier sinkers than you'd expect for the depth, as current here can run fast on the tide change.
The profiles constitutes a weavy area which surrounding area is characterized by sandy and shelly material as a bottom type.
