Slough off the New Jersey coast
Two compact sloughs positioned 7.3 nautical miles east of the Site 11 Reef, following the 120-foot depth line to a maximum of 124 feet. At this depth, sea bass and tautog are the primary targets, holding tight to the slough structure throughout the fishing season. The eastern orientation from Site 11 puts these sloughs in a productive transition zone between inshore reefs and deeper offshore structure. Fall sea bass fishing (September through November) is the peak period. Approach from Cape May Inlet or Stone Harbor; charter boats work this ground in rotation with the nearby Site 11 Reef. The slough cuts provide natural fish-holding habitat away from the main reef pressure.
The surrounding area is characterized by sandy and shelly material as a bottom type.
