McCrie Shoal rises just 4.8 nautical miles south of Cape May Inlet, nearly 2,000 acres of shoal ground guarding the approach to the Rips. It is dedicated fluke water — the shoal's slopes and sand waves stage flatfish all summer, close enough to fish on a half-day tide.
They are surrounded by several lumps of the same area make up of sandy and shelly in the north of them.
