The Bottom Line

What's confirmed: The Jersey Shore's barrier islands are under a National Weather Service Heat Advisory through 8 PM Saturday, July 4, and NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has flagged a Level 2-of-5 severe thunderstorm risk for the shore Saturday evening, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 11 PM.

What's actually changed: Ocean Casino Resort's North Beach Fireworks Spectacular in Atlantic City was postponed from June 26 to July 10 due to weather, and a thunderstorm interrupted Lacey Township's July 3 fireworks mid-show (documented on video — see below). No other Shore town in our coverage area has rescheduled or cancelled a July 4th weekend show as of July 4, 2026 (afternoon).

What it means for you: Storms this time of year can flare up fast along the coast. Check the town's official site or social media before you head out, and have a backup plan if a show gets delayed or cut short.

Confirmed on the Ground: Lacey Township

A thunderstorm rolled in mid-show during Lacey Township's July 3 fireworks display, cutting the celebration short. The moment was caught on video and shared to the Lacey, NJ community Facebook group, and also uploaded to YouTube — real, on-the-ground evidence that the storm risk this holiday weekend isn't just a forecast.

Video via YouTube. Also shared to the Lacey, NJ Facebook community group. Lacey Township sits just inland from Forked River and Barnegat Bay — not one of the boardwalk towns in our July 4th schedule below, but a clear local example of the same storm system.
