Tolten North marks the northern section of the Tolten wreck site, the remains of the Chilean cargo freighter SS Tolten torpedoed by German U-404 on March 13, 1942, approximately 16 miles from Manasquan Inlet. At roughly 90 feet, the Tolten's spread-out structure attracts sea bass, ling (cusk), and cod throughout the season. The northern debris field extends the fishable zone around the main wreck, giving captains multiple anchor points to target different sections of the vessel. The Tolten was a diplomatic incident — its neutral Chilean flag didn't protect it from the German wolf pack campaign. Charter fleets from Manasquan and Barnegat Inlet run regular trips to the Tolten complex during sea bass and ling season.
