About This Ground

The Texel is a deep offshore wreck in NJ waters, catalogued in the NJ Scuba dive site database and sitting at approximately 230 feet on the outer continental shelf. Named for the Dutch Frisian island, the wreck has collapsed into a low-profile debris field with hull plates fallen outward, the midsection and superstructure gone, and the stern marked by the propeller shaft. The depth places this firmly in technical diving and long-range charter territory. The surrounding deep-water environment at this latitude supports tilefish on the bottom structure and offshore pelagic species — bluefish, bonito, and tuna — in the water column above during summer migration. Most accessible via offshore boats running from central or southern NJ ports.
