About This Ground

The Atlantic Princess, a 90-foot commercial scallop dragger, sank in December 1980 when her dredge gear snagged the bottom and capsized the vessel, killing four of her six crew. The wreck lies in 160–180 feet of water, roughly 43 miles offshore from Barnegat Inlet, near the productive Chicken Canyon offshore zone. Despite the depth and distance, the Atlantic Princess has developed a strong reputation among NJ offshore anglers — GPS coordinates are widely circulated in the charter boat community. Yellowfin tuna are regularly caught at and around the site during summer and fall migrations. Bottom structure holds sea bass and tautog for those willing to make the long run. Most accessible from Manasquan or Barnegat Inlet with a capable offshore vessel.
