What an NJ Fishing Charter Actually Costs
Honest breakdown of party boat and charter pricing — what’s in the base price, what isn’t, and what your real all-in cost will be.
The short version

- • Private charter (your group of up to 6): $475–3,500+ per boat. Add 15–20% tip + parking + fish cleaning.
- • License: never needed on a charter or party boat — the boat covers it.
- • Deposit: 25–50% on booking. Weather cancellations are fully refunded.
- • Tip: always cash. Bring it. Mates depend on it.

Frequently Asked
How much is the deposit when I book?
FishingBooker holds 25–50% of the trip price as deposit when you reserve. The balance is due to the captain in cash on the day of the trip. Party boats typically take payment in full at the dock; they may charge a $20–50 hold to reserve.
Is the deposit refundable if weather cancels?
Yes. Captain-cancelled trips (weather, mechanical) are 100% refunded automatically through FishingBooker. The captain is the final word on weather — they will not run an unsafe trip.
Can I cancel for personal reasons and get my deposit back?
Most charters have a 7–14 day full-refund window. Inside that window, deposits are typically non-refundable but you can usually reschedule once at no charge. Check the specific charter’s cancellation policy on FishingBooker before booking.
What happens if we don’t catch anything?
You still pay in full. Captains guarantee effort, not fish — they’ll work hard regardless. NJ inshore species (fluke, sea bass) are usually reliable in season; offshore tuna trips have more variance.
Do I need to buy a NJ fishing license?
No. Charter and party boats hold a "vessel license" that covers all paying anglers. You only need your own license if fishing from shore, a pier, or a private boat.
Is the price per person or per boat?
Party boats are per person ($50–95). Private charters are per boat ($475–3,500+) and split among up to 6 anglers — bring more friends to lower the per-person cost.
Are kids cheaper?
On most party boats, kids 12 and under are 50% off; some boats run "kids fish free" promos on weekends in summer. Check the specific boat’s policy.
