LBI Booking Mistakes to Avoid
First-time LBI renters learn these lessons the hard way:
Waiting until spring to book a July beach house
The good houses are gone by February. You're stuck with overpriced leftovers or a house 6 blocks from the beach.
✓ Start looking in December/January. Many families rebook the same house year after year. The best properties go FAST.
Not checking if linens are included
You arrive at 4 PM on Saturday, bags packed, and discover bare mattresses. Scrambling to find a store with sheets.
✓ Read the listing carefully. Many LBI rentals are "linens not included." Pack sheets, towels, and beach towels, or arrange rental delivery.
Assuming you can park anywhere on the island
LBI has strict parking enforcement. Your rental car gets ticketed ($50+) or towed. Vacation budget blown.
✓ Confirm your rental has off-street parking. If exploring, use the free causeway lot in Ship Bottom or pay for municipal lots.
Booking solely based on price without checking location
You got a "deal" but the house is on the bay side, 8 blocks from the beach. Lugging gear in 90°F heat with cranky kids.
✓ Check the address on Google Maps. "Ocean block" or "1 block to beach" is worth the premium with kids and gear.
