A good beach blanket gets sand off, holds 2-6 people, and packs back into your bag without becoming a sand explosion in the trunk. The right pick depends on group size and whether you actually want to sit on damp sand.

Effectively yes. Parachute nylon mesh lets sand fall through with a shake. They're not magical — sand still gets between fabric layers — but compared to cotton, they're 80% less sandy.
Add 30% to your group size for chairs, cooler, and stuff. Family of 4 needs 7x9 ft minimum (calculated for stuff). Solo or couples are fine with 5x7 ft.
