Pelican kayaks are 5-10 lbs lighter than Perception equivalents. For solo loading on a roof rack, that matters. For Sandy Hook walk-ins where you're hauling 100 ft of dune, it really matters.
Perception's hull design tracks straighter without rudder input. For Barnegat Bay's mile-wide open water, this saves energy. Pelican wanders more without active correction.
