NJ DEP enforcement officers check IDs at all major fishing spots β€” IBSP entrance gates, Manasquan inlet jetties, Cape May charters. The registry is free; getting cited is not.

Go to njfishandwildlife.com, click Saltwater Recreational Registry, fill out form, get confirmation email. 5 minutes. Free. Print or save the email β€” that's your license.

Required Ages

Ages 16+ must register. Under 16 fish for free without registry. Non-residents need a separate non-resident registry (also free).

Catch Limits

Stripers: slot limit (28-31 inches typical, 1 fish/day). Fluke: 18-inch min, 3/day. Bluefish: 5/day. Tautog: 16-inch min, 5/day in season. Always check current limits at njfishandwildlife.com.

No-License Spots

No NJ saltwater spots are tag-free for fishing. Even free Wildwood beaches require the saltwater registry. Pier fishing also requires it.
