Cape May Point

Raptor Capital of North America

Cape May Point is a quiet, nature-focused residential borough offering a contemplative counterpoint to Cape May's bustle—a "sanctuary for wildlife and those who come to witness it." This is considered North America's greatest bird watching location and the "Raptor Capital of North America."

The narrow peninsula acts as a "bird funnel"—the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean force migrating birds to concentrate as they filter south. Over 400 different species have been recorded during fall migration, including spectacular flights of peregrines, merlins, ospreys, and sharp-shinned hawks. The Cape May Hawkwatch Platform receives over 100,000 visitors per season.

Sunset Beach is famous for its spectacular sunsets over Delaware Bay, the SS Atlantus concrete ship wreck (a WWI-era experimental vessel that ran aground in 1926), and Cape May Diamonds—quartz crystals polished by waves. A flag-lowering ceremony has been held here since 1973.
