About Conover Beacon
Conover Beacon was the front range light that worked with Chapel Hill Rear Range Lighthouse to guide ships into Sandy Hook Bay. The deteriorated structure survives but is not accessible.
History
Conover Beacon was built in 1856 as the front range light, working in conjunction with Chapel Hill Rear Range Lighthouse. Ships would align the two lights to safely navigate into Sandy Hook Bay.
After deactivation in 1957, the wooden structure deteriorated significantly. It remains on private property and is not accessible to the public.
