About Chapel Hill Rear Range Lighthouse
Chapel Hill Rear Range Lighthouse is a historic brownstone tower that once worked with Conover Beacon to guide ships into Sandy Hook Bay. Now a private residence, it can be viewed from the road.
History
Chapel Hill Rear Range Lighthouse was built in 1856 as part of a range light system with Conover Beacon. Ships entering Sandy Hook Bay would align the two lights to safely navigate the channel.
The brownstone tower is one of the few remaining examples of this construction material in lighthouse architecture. After deactivation in 1956, it was sold to private owners and converted to a residence.
